So, how do I get a job these days?

Is social media the most effective and reliable way to get a person a job? Can we really make a judgement on a person’s identity based on their online profile?

So many elements of life, like shopping, meeting people and now receiving a job, is evolving into the virtual world. In particular, there are so many benefits yet limitations as to how social media can grant an individual a job.

The online world can be a perfect platform for those seeking a career they desire, however one must be careful with how they approach it.

In order to get a job online, you need to extremely outline details of your profile, as well as keep a constant activity on various online accounts. Though, you need to be wary with how to illustrate your digital presence the appropriate way.

Therefore, to get that dream job, an individual must put them self out there and be social on social media in order to be recognised.

Show your true self

‘Employers seek out both competent and non-professional details online, providing a further source for information based on a person’ (El Quirdi, Pais, Segers & El Quirdi 2016). If you want yourself to stand out from the rest, the idea is to provide a lot of information about yourself, especially images and current work that you may be doing.

John Siebert (2014) focuses on seven key characteristics that a person or company needs to endure in order for it to be a success. He’s number one rule, mainly concentrating on marketing businesses, is that ‘social media needs to be everywhere the customers are’. Therefore, emphasising that social media outlets should be targeting particular audiences with detailed attributes that can attract them to your product.

Communication is the key, the door is social media, the landscape is your career

Without communication, we wouldn’t be able to express our opinions for everyone to read/ see.

However, nowadays social media is the most effective way for us to reach a broader audience.

The best media outlets to use include: LinkedIn, Twitter, Blogging and YouTube. Together, these may just make a person stand out in an interview.

And that is what will lead you to more opportunities like granting a job or being the one to give someone a job.

Together, this image is an online journey to a goal one intends on achieving, which should succeed with the right strategies.

Dress your online self with a tie

When we go out or have certain opinions on things, we tend to not watch what we post for everyone to see. Therefore, its crucial to keep a rational profile across all media platforms.

The following image illustrates the most effective way of keeping a balanced online persona. The ‘Blog Comments’, is a great example for employing social media professionally. If there are interactions happening, recruiters will be more intrigued to see how you deal with communication to the viewers.

Ultimately, social media is most beneficial if used valuably to yourself.
